Michelin now awards Keys to hotels the way it awards stars to restaurants, Forbes Travel Guide recognizes only 343 Five-Star properties on the entire planet, and a Manhattan penthouse holds a Guinness World Record for its nightly rate. This is our summer 2026 edition, assembled from the newest rankings, the latest openings and the records set in the past year. A few of these houses have been refining the same rituals for a century and a half. Others opened recently enough that the staff are still learning each other’s names, and one changed operators in January. 25. Mardan Palace in Antalya, Turkey
Scale is the first thing you register at Mardan Palace, and craftsmanship is the second. The $1.4 billion attached to its 2009 construction bought gold-leafed domes, fountain courts and a five-acre pool wide enough to cross by gondola, all executed with a seriousness that separates spectacle from kitsch. January 2026 brought a change of hands when Swandor Hotels assumed operations and retired the Titanic Mardan Palace name the resort had carried since 2018. What connoisseurs miss when they dismiss all-inclusive properties is the machinery underneath: roughly 560 rooms across three wings, a private white-sand beach, a spa built for serious treatment, kids clubs and a splash park, all coordinated without visible strain. Extravagance and family logistics rarely coexist. Here they share one very large, very golden roof.
